Journalist Nick Clooney and his actor / director son, George, visited southern Sudan and eastern Chad last spring to hear first-hand accounts of Darfur’s violence and displacement in preparation for “A Journey To Darfur,” a special that will air on American Life TV January 15 at 8 p.m. ET. In the documentary, George and Nick Clooney risk their own lives to meet people who fled the violence in Darfur and to record and retell their stories to put a needed spotlight on the crisis. They interviewed displaced persons who described attacks on their Darfur villages by militia groups, the killing of family members, looting of their farms and separation from their children in the chaos of fight.

“We were there for nine days,” George says at one point in the film, “and there wasn’t a minute I didn’t think we were going to get killed.”
